My “unpopular opinion” is that making your own sourdough really isn’t all that hard when you use a basic recipe. I’ve used the King Arthur no knead sourdough recipe for years. It works every time, even when I make a mistake!
This isn’t one of those super long recipes with stories about my grandma’s dog. Let’s jump right into the recipe!

Sourdough cinnamon toast recipe
This recipe is very easy to scale up! It is given for just two sourdough slices, which I recommend cutting in half for serving to make four smaller pieces of toast.

Because we’re a lower sugar family, I find this is enough for our family of three to have a taste of sweet along with our usual breakfast options like eggs or yogurt.
– 2 slices of sourdough bread
– 2 tablespoons unsalted butter. Let’s be honest, I usually use salted and I always use grass fed.
– 2 tablespoons granulated sugar. I recommend an organic cane sugar.
– 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
– 1/4 cup maple syrup. Make sure to get “grade B” for a better maple flavor! (or to taste – I never actually use this much)
- DELICIOUSLY SWEET INGREDIENTS : Wholesome organic cane sugar contains a tiny bit of molasses in every blond crystal.
- USAGE: Organic cane sugar can be used as a one-for-one replacement for refined white sugar. We love it for baking delicious desserts and sweetening...
- SOURCING: Our organic agave nectar is sustainably grown and harvested in Mexico. Juice from the pina is then heated at a lower temperature than our...

How to make easy sourdough cinnamon Toast
First, mix the cinnamon sugar. In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Mix well and set aside. This is a great step for kids to help with!
Cut each sourdough slice in half. This can help the edges be crispy instead of getting a large, soggy center. The pictures show un-cut toast. That’s how I learned that it’s better when you pre-cut. =)

Spread your butter. Take the butter and spread a generous layer on one side of each slice of sourdough bread.

Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the buttered side of each slice, pressing down slightly to help it stick.

Preheat a cast iron skillet over medium heat. You can also use a stainless pan. I personally don’t use or recommend nonstick pans, but use that if it’s all you have.
Place the buttered and sugared side of the bread down in the hot pan. Cook for about 2-4 minutes, or until the bottom is golden brown and the sugar begins to caramelize.

Carefully flip the slices over to cook the other side. If desired, add a little more butter to the pan. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, or until the second side is golden.

Once both sides are toasted, remove the bread from the pan and drizzle with maple syrup (or your favorite syrup) while it’s still warm.

Let it cool slightly and serve with additional syrup on the side. You may want to offer other tasty treats like pecans and blueberries for topping, too.

Enjoy your delicious cinnamon sugar toast topped with syrup!
